Puppy Training

A well behaved dog is a pleasure and a joy to own making all the training so worth it.

The best time to start training your puppy is literally a day or two after bringing them home, giving them that time to settle into their new surroundings first. So why wait till they're old enough (due to vaccine requirements) to attend training classes where by then they may already have learned bad habits and unwanted behaviours. The best place to start training with any puppy is in the home, therefore I come to you.

Not only will you acquire good training techniques but also an understanding of how they work and why other techniques may not. You will also acquire an understanding of how your dog learns and thinks which will then help you identify why your dog behaves in a certain manner under certain circumstances. Knowledge of this will then help you adapt training methods to particular situations and by taking breed and instincts into account help you determine whether, in the best interests of your dog, your family and the general public, if your puppy's behaviour should be stopped, controlled, channelled or re-directed.

There is no set structure to any training session although commands are often best taught in a particular order. However, it is appreciated that each owner has different priorities as to what is important for their dog to learn, what stage their puppy is at in their training and what they may find acceptable behaviour or not. Therefore, the sessions will be flexible to accommodate the owner’s requests. As well as commands, owners may require help in toilet training, mouthing and chewing, crate training, walking on a lead, advice on where their puppy should sleep or eat and on socializing and preventing unwanted behaviours from developing etc etc

Most of the training techniques once demonstrated and then practised by you is accompanied by a step by step guide so that there is always something in writing for you to refer to.

Depending on the owners requirements, the initial training session can take up to two hours but this will equip you with all you need to successfully teach your puppy to become a well behaved and well adjusted dog. However, before starting training it is preferable that your puppy has had their initial check up at the vets and that the vet has no concerns over your puppy's health which may influence or affect puppy’s training.
